在高速公路上行车途中，如何应急所遭遇的突发交通事故呢？

一是冷静准确进行判断。一般来讲，高速公路上的一些交通事故，往往发生在能见度较差的雾雨、冰雪天气，或发生在丘陵地区及山区多弯道地段。因此，在前面车辆发生交通事故的第一时间内，要求驾驶员应本能地作出快速的、准确的判断。同时，一定要沉着冷静地对待处理，切不可遇事慌乱与紧张。这也是驾驶员所应具备的先决条件，和训练有素的个体表现。
二是及时停车带上手刹。一旦发现前方交通事故发生后的第一反应，驾驶员应及时采取紧急措施实行安全停车。待车停稳后，有经验驾驶员应该立即带上手刹。这样做的最大好处，可以减缓或减轻追尾事故发生时前后车辆碰撞的程度，还可以减少人员的最大伤亡。
三是迅速转移伺乘人员。停车后，为了防范更大的交通事故发生，驾驶员应及时组织和安排将乘客迅速转移到较为安全的地带，切不可掉以轻心或抱着侥幸心理，不要以为车停了没事了。因为有很多象数十辆车辆连续发生追尾事故的例子，就完全可以证明这一点。
四是赶紧投掷警示标志。在指挥转移伺乘人员的同时，驾驶员应马上向车后跑步100米或150米处，赶紧投掷警示标志，以避免追尾事故因此发生。切不可误认为自已安全了，就万事大吉了。殊不知追尾的后果，同样带给自己的是车辆的损失。
五是当好临时性交警员。在以上应急的基础上，驾驶员应充当临时性的交警员。最好拿备用应急灯或其它明显的标志物，万一没有就以打手势的办法，及时向后面的车辆发出停车的紧急信号。这样做的最大好处，在于保护了自已也保护了他人，阻止恶性追尾事故的降临。
六是抓紧拔打电话报警。在采取这些应急措施的前提下，驾驶员应抓紧向当地交警部门和高速公路所在的交警中队进行报案，以便于交警及时赶来施救、排障、处理和疏导交通。与此同时，在协助抢救伤员的过程中，一定要劝阻好乘客不要前去围观和看热闹，以防止事故的再一次扩大。
